The Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC) serves as an advisory body to the department Chair, Professor Jerome Lynch, and Graduate Chair, Associate Professor Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos, in matters of student climate and serves as an information resource to current students. Michelle is a PhD student in Civil Engineering, studying geotechnical engineering, focusing on field and laboratory assessment of cohesionless materials under earthquake loading. She is advised by Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos and Dimitrios Zekkos. Michelle likes all things related to the Cleveland Cavaliers, hiking and expanding my rock collection, pointing out retaining walls, and watching Arnold Schwarzenegger films.
Cassi is a PhD student in the Civil Engineering program, studying Geotechnical Engineering, and working with Professors Dimitrios Zekkos and Jerry Lynch. In her free time she enjoys gymnastics, country music, Nicholas Sparks novels, Patriots football, and spending time with her cat.
Christian is a PhD candidate in the Civil Engineering program working with Dr. Jason McCormick in the Structures Lab. His research involves assessing and improving the seismic performance of steel structures through non-traditional materials and sections. He enjoys watching live theater performances, e-sports, and travelling.
Weichen is a PhD student in Environmental Engineering, studying hydrology and ecohydrology with Professor Valeriy Ivanov. He enjoys ice skating and skiing during winters, and reading about history.
Ernesto is PhD student in Environmental Engineering working with Associate Professors Krista Wigginton and Branko Kerkez. His research focuses on drinking water quality trust in Mexico City using mixed methods from Engineering and Anthropology. In his spare time, he likes to dance salsa, play soccer, and watch baseball.
Brooke Mason is a PhD candidate in Civil Engineering working with Dr. Branko Kerkez in the Real-Time Water Systems Lab. Specifically, her research focus in on improving watershed water quality through real-time control of stormwater infrastructure. In her free time she enjoys anything outdoors, working out, reading, and painting.
Maria is a PhD Student in the Civil Engineering program. She is advised by Professor Evgueni Filipov and works in the Deployable and Reconfigurable Structures Lab. Maria enjoys dancing, reading, and supporting Michigan athletics in her free time!
Aini is a second year Master’s Student in Environmental Engineering, with a focus on Water Resources & Quality Engineering. She loves everything music related and exploring anything new, and let books take her to new places. You can also find her on the slopes in winter.
Xi Wang is a PhD student in Civil Engineering program working with Professor Carol Menassa and Professor Vineet Kamat. She is interested in using robots to facilitate construction activities. She enjoys watching sports games, reading books and cooking in her free time.
Steven is a third year PhD candidate in the Deployable and Reconfigurable Structures Lab, advised by Professor Evgueni Filipov. In his spare time, Steven enjoys cooking and taking care of his succulents and betta fish.
Kelley is the Graduate Student Coordinator in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She works with graduate student-related issues planning and scheduling events and workshops, answering questions regarding applications and our admission process, defenses for our PhD students, graduation/program questions, end of year surveys, PhD evaluations, fellowship award entry, and assisting with the Graduate Student Advisory Council. In her free time she enjoys traveling to new places, gardening, and spending time with her family.
