The Graduate Student Advisory Council (GSAC) serves as an advisory body to the department Chair, Professor Jerome Lynch, and Graduate Chair, Associate Professor Adda Athanasopoulos-Zekkos, in matters of student climate and serves as an information resource to current students. Malcolm is a PhD student in the Civil Engineering program working with Professor Jason McCormick. He is studying Structural Engineering. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys cooking and traveling.
Avery is a PhD candidate in Environmental Engineering working with Professors Nancy Love and Glen Daigger. He is researching cutting-edge membrane technology to be implemented in Nanjing, China. On the side, he plays club soccer, and attends Michigan football games.
Cassi is a PhD student in the Civil Engineering program, studying Geotechnical Engineering, and working with Professors Dimitrios Zekkos and Jerry Lynch. In her free time she enjoys gymnastics, country music, Nicholas Sparks novels, Patriots football, and spending time with her cat.
Katherine is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Laboratory of Intelligent Systems Technologies, advised by Professor Jerry Lynch. In her spare time, Katherine enjoys backpacking and exploring the outdoors, playing the double bass and piano, playing tennis, improving her skills as a cartographer, and laughing at Northwood’s adorable woodland creatures.
Monica is an MSE in Civil Engineering student, with a concentration in Structural Engineering. She is advised by Professor Ann Jeffers and is interested in design of high rise buildings. She is a warm, loving person who enjoys travelling, singing and reading books in her spare time.
Houtan is a PhD Candidate in the Civil Engineering program working under the supervision of Professor SangHyun Lee. He is interested in assessing construction workers’ physical and mental status using wearable biosensors. In his free time, Houtan enjoys keeping up with his fitness regime, kayaking, and playing team sports. Meghna is a second year Environmental Engineering master’s student. She is focusing on water resources engineering and is advised by Professors Krista Wigginton and Lutgarde Raskin.
Sara is a PhD student in the Environmental Engineering program working with Professors Branko Kerkez and Nancy Love. She is interested in data-driven modeling of sewer systems. Sara enjoys crafting, taking care of her plants, and exploring wherever conferences take her.
Daniel is a second year PhD student who loves many things, from reading to ice skating, passing through cooking and playing basketball, soccer or football. But he still has room to love some more fun, so bring in ideas! He is advised by Professor Yafeng Yin.
Steven is a PhD student in the Deployable and Reconfigurable Structures Lab, advised by Professor Evgueni Filipov. In his spare time, Steven enjoys fencing epee, cooking, and taking care of his succulents and betta fish, Albert.
Kelley is the Graduate Student Coordinator in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She works with graduate student-related issues planning and scheduling events and workshops, answering questions regarding applications and our admission process, defenses for our PhD students, graduation/program questions, end of year surveys, PhD evaluations, fellowship award entry, and assisting with the Graduate Student Advisory Council. In her free time she enjoys traveling to new places, gardening, and spending time with her family.
