U-M CEE is proud to announce David Kelly, Lecturer III, has been elected to the grade of fellow by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for his many contributions in the area of construction engineering and management. Dr. Kelly’s path to fellow included earning professional engineering (P.E.) licenses in multiple states while having responsible charge of important business, construction, research, and society activity requiring application of knowledge accumulated from engineering education and decades of experience.
With over 160,000 members, ASCE is the nation’s oldest engineering society (founded in 1852). The society represents civil engineers–those who build, design, operate, and plan the built environment while protecting and restoring the natural environment–and is the global leader in publication of civil engineering materials, including numerous widely-cited engineering standards. Only 3% of the society’s members are recognized with this distinguished honor.
Dr. Kelly was first elected as a member of ASCE in 1999, shortly after earning his first P.E. license. He served on the board of directors of the Michigan Section, Southeastern Branch from 2011 to 2019, including election as branch president in 2017 – 2018. Selection as a fellow recognizes his service to the society, accomplishments in, and contributions to the advancement of construction engineering and management education and practice.
“It is a great honor to be selected as an ASCE fellow. ASCE is an indispensable organization serving the profession and society at large. I have gained much more than I ever thought possible from my engagement with ASCE,” commented Kelly.
Dr. Kelly will be formally recognized at the ASCE Outstanding Projects And Leaders Gala in Tampa, FL in October.
