UM-CEE is proud to be a co-sponsor of the 17th International Water Association World Conference on Anaerobic Digestion (AD17). UM-CEE Prof. Lut Raskin is a co-host of this event, which happens from June 17 to June 22, 2022, in Ann Arbor. Staff member Tim Fairley-Wax, postdoc Kuang Zhu, and graduate students Dianna Kitt, Renata Starostka, Pedro Puente, and others are serving on the organizing committee.

The theme of AD17 is “Biogas and Beyond: Expanding Applications of Anaerobic Biotechnologies in a Circular Economy.” The conference program includes pre-conference workshops, plenary and keynote lectures, a “research to entrepreneurship” panel, oral presentations, and poster sessions. The plenary lecture (June 19), keynote lectures (June 20, 21, 22), and the entrepreneurship panel (June 19) in the Michigan Theater are free and open to the public and do not require registration.

“We are excited to offer an in-person conference to our diverse community of anaerobic digestion stakeholders and to invite everyone else in the Southeast Michigan region to learn about our field by attending our free keynote lectures and an entrepreneurship panel (no registration required),” Raskin said.

“We selected “Biogas and Beyond: Expanding Applications of Anaerobic Biotechnologies in a Circular Economy” as our conference theme to highlight the increasingly important role of anaerobic biotechnologies in a circular (bio)economy.” Raskin emphasized that the entire community is invited to participate and learn about IWA and its research.
