Yafeng Yin receives Staff-Faculty Partnership Award

The award recognizes faculty who foster a collaborative work atmosphere and demonstrate exemplary partnerships with staff.

Professor and Associate Department Chair of Graduate Programs Yafeng Yin has been awarded the Staff-Faculty Partnership Award by University of Michigan College of Engineering. The award recognizes engineering faculty who honor the importance of the staff-faculty partnership.

Yin is recognized for living by department and college values, serving as a resource for staff, fostering a collaborative and healthy work environment, demonstrating leadership and showing patience when dealing with sensitive issues, among other criteria for the award

“He sees value in developing and nurturing relationships with colleagues. Several support letters share stories of recognizing work-life balance and having a willingness to make time for staff,” writes Department Administrator Patricia Brainard.

In addition to having a positive attitude and taking time to get to know all members of the department, Yin is recognized for stepping in as graduate chair in the middle of the academic year despite several research commitments.

Brainard further notes that Yin “is a member of the CEE Emergency Response Team and he took on the extra communications to admitted students during COVID.” Yin keeps staff and faculty informed on Rackham initiatives and programs, ensuring that the department is exemplifying university values.

The college established the award in 2018, and it is accompanied by an individual cash award of $3000, a framed award citation and recognition at both the College of Engineering Staff Excellence Awards and Faculty Honors and Awards events. Yin is the first CEE professor to receive the Staff-Faculty Partnership Award.
