Glen Daigger and Nancy Love receive Wesley W. Horner Award from ASCE
Their winning paper explores integrated urban water management systems.
Professors of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Glen Daigger and Nancy G. Love have been awarded the 2021 Wesley W. Horner Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Environmental and Water Resources Institute for their paper “Progress and Promise Transitioning to the One Water/Resource Recovery Integrated Urban Water Management Systems.”
The award honors outstanding papers on the topics of hydrology, urban drainage or sewage that have been published in an ASCE journal in the previous year. Daigger and Love were co-authors with Colorado State University of Fort Collins Professors Sybil Sharvelle and Mazdak Arabi. The writing team’s paper was published in the October 2019 issue of ASCE’s Journal of Environmental Engineering.
Daigger and Love’s paper details an integrated “One Water” approach to urban water systems and reviews some of the emerging literature on this topic. A One Water approach focuses on recovering resources such as water, energy and nutrients from the water system, as opposed to managing system components separately and linearly.
According to the ASCE website, the Wesley W. Horner Award was first instituted in 1968. The award honors Past President Wesley Horner, and is endowed by Horner Shifrin, Inc. and the family of Wesley Horner.
The writing team will be presented with the award at the ASCE Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) 2021 World Environmental & Water Resources Congress in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, later this year.
