Ariel Roy receives Best Speaker Award at Construction Institute’s Student Days
CEE undergraduate Ariel Roy received the Best Speaker Award for her team, Civil Six, through the Construction Institute (CI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers’s Student Days.
Civil Engineering undergraduate student Ariel Roy has received the Best Speaker Award through the Construction Institute (CI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Student Days. Roy’s team also won the team competition for their written and oral real-world construction projects.
The Construction Institute (CI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers developed Student Days to bring top engineering students from across the country together with potential employers who are seeking new talent. Student Days events give students the information and tools they need to stand out in a competitive job market while providing engineering recruiters with unique opportunities to get up close and personal with a stellar pool of candidates. CI also hosts a unique student competition, the CI Heavy Civil Engineering Team Challenge. Students team up to create a bid package for a real-world construction job and present their proposal to construction professionals. This year’s event was held at the Westin Arlington Gateway Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, from July 19 through July 23, 2019.
Roy is currently a third-year undergraduate student and is involved with several extracurriculars. Outside of classes, she is the secretary for ASCE, a member of the Civil Engineering Honor Society Chi Epsilon, a house-member at the Michigan Branch of the Telluride Association, and a grader/IA for the CEE department.
“I decided to do Student Days after seeing an email from the department about the event,” says Roy. “I was doing a construction management internship last summer and thought Student Days would be a great way to expand my understanding of the construction field and make valuable connections both with industry professionals and with other civil engineering students across the country. I thought it would be a fun way to step outside my comfort zone and challenge myself.”
Congratulations to Roy and her team!
