The University of Michigan’s Steel Bridge Team finished an exceptional year by placing 13th overall at the ASCE/AISC National Student Steel Bridge Competition at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, May 25-26, 2018.

The team competed against 41 other teams in the national competition, consisting of the top two teams from each regional competition. The University of Michigan team placed first overall at the regional competition on April 6-8, 2018.

At the national competition, the University of Michigan team also finished 1st in aesthetics, 4th in lightness, 6th in construction economy, 8th in construction speed, 20th in structural efficiency, and 23rd in stiffness.

The Steel Bridge Competition provides an opportunity for Civil Engineering students to gain hands-on experience with design and fabrication of a bridge constructed to meet client specifications. At the competition, students work as a team to assemble the 1:10 scale model steel bridge, which is then loaded and scored.

Congratulations to the University of Michigan Steel Bridge Team on an outstanding year!
