M. Eng. in Structural Engineering The M. Eng. degree is for students concentrating on the development of an expertise in structural engineering with a target of continuing into professional practice. It requires 30 hours of coursework that satisfy the following minimum requirements. More information is given in this link to M Eng (Structural Engineering) Requirements and Procedures (PDF).
MSE (Civil Engineering) The Master of Science in Engineering (Civil Engineering) with an emphasis in either structural engineering or materials engineering is for students who want to complete a tradition Masters degree program. Students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. are encouraged to enroll in this degree program. This MSE degree requires 30 hours of coursework with at least 12 hours in either structural engineering or materials engineering. Six hours, including an advanced math course, must be selected from courses outside the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. More information is given below in the link to MSE Requirements and Procedures. Dual Masters Degree Programs The Structural Engineering program has developed an informal dual degree program with the College of Architecture, through which a student can combine either the MSE (Civil Engineering) or the M. Eng. Structural Engineering with the Master of Architecture degree. Students complete course requirements for both degrees. However, dual counting of some courses reduces the total hours below that required when pursuing the degrees separately. PhD (Civil Engineering) The PhD program is open to outstanding applicants who have demonstrated excellence in their coursework and a capability for independent research. The focus of the doctoral work is on the student's dissertation research, which must make a significant contribution to knowledge in a particular field. The PhD program requires at least 21 credit hours of coursework beyond a Master's degree, not including independent study, to prepare the student for research in a specific area of structural engineering. For a list of structural engineering and materials engineering faculty members and research topics, students should refer to the Structures and Materials Engineering section of the CEE Department webpage. More information is given below in the link to PhD Requirements and Procedures. Related Links: |
