The M.S.E. degree consists of a minimum of 30 credit hours of graduate coursework. Some students may be required to complete basic engineering and science courses to address deficiencies in their undergraduate curriculum. The Ph.D. involves 20 to 25 hours of advanced coursework beyond the master's level and requires a dissertation.

The EWRE program participates in the five-year Simultaneous Graduate/Undergraduate Study (SGUS) program and offers the following combined degrees:

M.S.E. in Environmental Engineering/B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering

M.S.E. in Environmental Engineering/B.S.E. in Civil and Environmental Engineering
