Peter Adriaens has been inducted as President of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP, www.aeesp.org). Founded in 1963 as a private nonprofit organization, AEESP assists its members in improving education and research programs, encourages graduate education, and serves the profession by providing information to government agencies and the public, and provides direct benefits to its members.

The Association is made up of over 800 professors in academic programs throughout the world who provide education in the sciences and technologies of environmental protection. The research and education programs represented in the organization encompass, among others, water and wastewater treatment, remediation process design and field validation, green infrastructure systems, energy and biofuels, water and air emissions management, and climate change causes and effects.

With increasing focus on the three tenets of sustainability, the Association seeks to improve the state of knowledge in environmental engineering and science through the support and encouragement of education, outreach, and scientific research, to impact environmental policies, protect human and ecosystem health and create economic value.
