08/04/04 : fib Award goes to David Ferrand

David Ferrand, PhD candidate in CEE, has received an award from fib (Fédération Internationale du Béton) at the 5th International PhD Symposium in Civil Engineering. The 5th International PhD Symposium is held every 2 years and serves as a forum for international discussion in Civil Engineering; PhD candidates have the opportunity to present their research to an international audience which includes experts in sciences and industry. The selection is based on the technical content of the paper and the presentation quality. More than 180 PhD students from around the world participated to this Symposium and David Ferrand is the only PhD Student from the United States to be awarded. The paper was co-authored with Prof. Andrzej S. Nowak and Dr. Maria M. Szerszen.

07.22.2004 : Subhash Goel received the 2004 Shortridge Hardesty Award from ASCE.


06.22.2004 : Prof. Hayes Receives UM Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award

Prof. Kim Hayes received the University of Michigan Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award. The University presents this award as a tribute for extraordinary achievements in the areas of teaching, scholarly research, service and other activities which have brought distinction to the University.


06.21.2004 : Best Student Paper Award Goes to Samothrakis

Periandros Samothrakis, PhD Candidate in EWRE, has received the award for the Best Student Paper/Presentation at the 17 th Engineering Mechanics Conference. The Engineering Mechanics conference is the annual conference of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Engineering Mechanics Technical Division, and attracts researchers from academia and industry from around the world to present their recent research findings. The selection is based on the technical content of the paper and the presentation quality and style. The paper was co-authored with Prof. Aline Cotel.

FraMCoS-5 was co-organized by our department and the U. of Colorado. The conference was attended by more than 180 participants from 25 countries. (FraMCoS = Fracture Mechanics of Concrete and Concrete Structures)
